Bible Versions—Which to Choose

There are so many Bible versions to choose from. How do you decide which one? If you go to a Christian book store and ask that question, they might ask what is important to you? Do you want the one that’s easiest to read? They might not ask you if you want the one that’s the most accurate to what God actually said. But that is the best criteria.

We’ve written about this, because it’s foundational to your understanding of God and what He wants to communicate to you. For certain, all Bibles are not the same. They don’t all say the same thing.

In their statement of faith, any evangelical church or Bible college website will tell you they believe the scriptures were inspired in their original language. Yes indeed. But what happened after that? Because we don’t have the originals anymore. From then until now, it has become the wild wild West when it comes to translations.

Would God inspire the originals and then give up control? Nope. He was as active in preserving His word as He was in inspiring it. So the important question is… which is the preserved word of God? We’re not talking about the general ideas of God. We are eager to know which is the Word of God that He intended for us to read and study.

Below is our explanation of Bible versions in white paper format and in printable tract format. PS. We’ve also written a few blogs on this topic. Click here to read one, and click here to read another.
