The best way for anyone, especially children, to memorize verses is to sing them. In fact, many of the verses below were Sunday School memory verses. Decades later, they are still remembered! Gen 1:1-In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Gen 1:27-God created man in his own image… Male and female created he them.
