2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Every child of God is supposed to do three things with His word: learn it right, live it right, and let it out. To learn it right, we must study God’s word and not just read it. However, most Christians don’t study the Bible, partly because they don’t know how.
We need to study in such a way that:
- We present ourselves APPROVED unto God or accepted of Him. How? As a WORKMAN or laborer in the word. A laborer works hard and is unfazed by the difficulties of learning. Some people are not used to studying, spending hours in front of the Bible cross referencing verses, perhaps due to culture or upbringing. But this is no excuse.
- We RIGHTLY DIVIDE the word of truth. Rightly dividing requires a METHOD, which is what this material is about.
We need to keep in mind that the Bible is not about us. The Bible is about God’s kingdom with Jesus Christ sitting on the throne, ruling and reigning forever as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. If we are ever going to learn the Bible right, we must get this right.
Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
1Chronicles 29:11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.
Matthew 6:10-11 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. It is with the kingdom in mind that we should ask for our daily bread. The problem with most Christians is that we want our daily bread, but never mind the kingdom. I pity those who live on the “Our Daily Bread” booklet, because it is “all about me”—How I can get through this week with a little dab of verses. Have we not figured out yet that the more that our insight is about us, the more messed up we are?
Colossians 1:16-17 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. If the Bible is about us, God must serve us, in the sense that He created everything for our purposes. But, if the Bible is about Jesus, we must serve Him. The last time I checked, Colossians 1:16 hasn’t changed.
The “How to Rightly Divide the Word of Truth” eight-week class is open to believers from all denominations. Decades-old believers are learning to feed themselves from the Bible for the very first time. They can now see the hidden treasures that are weaved into the historical text on every page of the Bible, and they are excited!
The study material is designed to be instructor-led. If you can gather between eight to twelve people who are genuinely thirsty and hungry for the word of God, please contact me for an engagement. Below are the class handouts.
